Thailand has been the default first international trip for South Indian travellers for two decades, and there is a reason: short flights, familiar food, warm people, and a cost of living that makes a week feel affordable. The catch is that the standard package has barely changed in those twenty years. Bangkok city tour, Pattaya coral island, a floating market, a show, home.
There is a much better version of this trip. Bangkok deserves two full days if you actually want to eat well and see one temple properly. The south, whether Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui, deserves four nights rather than two. And Chiang Mai, which most packages skip entirely, is where Thailand becomes something other than a beach holiday.
We plan Thailand around your group. A family with grandparents gets a different itinerary from four friends in their twenties, and both get a different one from a honeymoon couple. What stays constant is that we book real hotels we can vouch for, arrange private transfers rather than shared shuttle vans where it matters, and tell you honestly which optional tours are worth the money.
There is no single right month, only the right month for what you want. Here is how the year breaks down, and what each window means for weather, crowds and price.
| November to February | The cool dry season and the best weather of the year. Book early, because everyone else has worked this out too. |
|---|---|
| March to May | Hot, sometimes very hot, but quieter and cheaper. The islands are still excellent. |
| June to August | Green season in the south. Showers come and go; Indian school holidays make this a popular family window. |
| September to October | Wettest months on the west coast. Koh Samui and the Gulf side stay drier and are often the smarter pick. |
The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are worth the early start. So is an hour on the Chao Phraya express boat, which costs almost nothing and shows you the city from the water. We usually put Bangkok first while jet lag still has you waking early, and we build in a proper evening for food, whether that is a night market or a rooftop.
Phuket has the most infrastructure and the easiest connections. Krabi has the better scenery and the calmer pace, with Railay and the Four Islands trip. Koh Samui is a longer hop but stays drier during the west-coast monsoon. We will tell you which fits your dates rather than defaulting to whichever is easiest to book.
Phi Phi, James Bond Island and the Similans are all genuinely beautiful and all genuinely crowded in season. The difference is entirely in timing and boat choice. We book the earlier departures and smaller boats where they exist, and we will say plainly when a particular day trip is not worth it for your group.
Northern Thailand is a different country: mountains, old temples, a proper night bazaar, and ethical elephant sanctuaries where the animals are not ridden. If you can stretch to nine nights, adding Chiang Mai transforms the trip from a beach holiday into something you will still be talking about next year.
A plate of pad thai from a street cart and a tasting menu in a Bangkok restaurant are both correct answers. Thailand does spice in a way South Indian travellers usually enjoy, and vegetarian food is widely understood. Tell us about dietary needs and we will note them with every hotel.
Chatuchak on a weekend, Pratunam for clothing, and the night markets in Chiang Mai are where the value is. The gem shops and factory outlets that appear on many packaged itineraries are commission stops. We do not put them in your plan.
A starting point, not a fixed plan. Every MilesBeyond itinerary is rebuilt around your dates, your group and the pace you actually want.
| Day 1 | Arrive Bangkok, transfer, evening at a night market. |
|---|---|
| Day 2 | Grand Palace, Wat Pho and a river boat, with a free afternoon. |
| Day 3 | Optional day trip or a shopping and food day, then fly south. |
| Day 4 | Krabi or Phuket. Settle in, beach afternoon, sunset dinner. |
| Day 5 | Island hopping day by speedboat, with snorkelling stops. |
| Day 6 | Free day, spa, or a second island trip if you want it. |
| Day 7 | Slow morning, transfer to the airport, fly home. |
Thailand suits almost everyone, which is exactly why the itinerary matters so much. Families do well with Krabi or Koh Samui and a shorter Bangkok stay. Friends groups get more from Phuket and Bangkok. Honeymooners tend to prefer Krabi or Samui with one good resort and fewer moving parts.
| Ideal duration | 6 to 9 nights |
|---|---|
| Visa | Visa on arrival or e-visa for Indian passport holders; check current rules at booking |
| Currency | Thai Baht. Cards accepted widely; carry cash for markets and boats |
| Flights from Coimbatore | Usually one stop via Chennai, Bengaluru or Kuala Lumpur |
| Time difference | 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India |
| Best suited to | First-time international travellers, families, friends groups, honeymooners |
Unless your quotation says otherwise, our packages include return flights, accommodation on twin sharing, airport and inter-city transfers, the sightseeing listed in your itinerary, daily breakfast, visa or permit assistance where applicable, and our planning and on-trip support.
They exclude personal expenses, meals not specified, optional excursions, tips, travel insurance and anything arising from delays outside our control. Every quotation lists inclusions and exclusions separately, so you know exactly what you are paying for before you pay anything.
You tell us your travel month, how many people are coming and roughly what you want to spend. We come back with a written itinerary showing the hotels by name, the transfers, and a clear price. If something does not suit you, we change it. There is no obligation, and we do not take a booking until you are happy with the plan on paper.
Once you travel, you have a real person on WhatsApp for the length of the trip. Flight delay, a hotel that is not as promised, a change of plan on day four: one message and we handle it from Coimbatore.
Tell us the month, the number of travellers and anything that matters to you. A planner replies with real options and a real price.
Six nights is a comfortable minimum for Bangkok plus one beach destination. Eight or nine nights lets you add Chiang Mai or a second island without rushing. Anything under five nights means you spend a large share of the trip in transit.
Thailand is among the more straightforward destinations in Asia for both. Standard precautions apply in busy nightlife areas, and we brief you on which parts of Pattaya and Patong are worth avoiding if you are travelling with children.
Indian passport holders currently have access to visa on arrival or an e-visa, depending on the prevailing rules. Requirements change periodically, so we confirm the exact process and documents when your booking is confirmed rather than relying on older information.
Krabi if you want scenery, calm and a slower pace. Phuket if you want more choice in hotels, restaurants and nightlife, and easier flight connections. For families with young children we usually lean towards Krabi or Koh Samui.
Yes in cities and tourist areas, with a little more care needed on small islands. Fish sauce appears in many dishes by default, so we brief you on how to ask for it to be left out, and we flag restaurants that handle pure vegetarian properly.
May, June and September are typically the lowest-priced months, with September being the wettest on the west coast. If your dates are flexible and you do not mind some rain, the savings are significant.
Tell us your dates and who is travelling. We will build the trip around you and stay available while you are away.
